內容簡介Recent research results from the NIMS laboratory were introduced. Research and development of silicon carbide ceramics are directed to practical use in the semiconductor and automobile industries. Improvement of properties is important, but at the same time, a cost effective research strategy is also demanded. When our results contribute to practical use, we believe that it is our reward as researchers and validates the reason for the existence of a public research institute. Silicon carbide ceramics and related materials are widely regarded as important components for fusion reactors, although this was not mentioned in the main text. In particular, silicon carbide fiber reinforced silicon carbide ceramic composites are of interest as one of candidates, and we may contribute in this field in future because purity is a very important factor. Demand for structural ceramics still exists from industries. However, corresponding to a global trend, many research institutes have stopped research and development of structural ceramics. We must again recognize the importance of research on structural ceramics and continue rigorous research in the future.
