內容簡介The crude steel production of China overtook Japan in 1996, making China No.1 in world production. In China, crude steel production has increased more than 30 million tons per year, and in 2003 it reached the level of 200 million tons. In 2004, the figure amounted to 275 million tons which was 25 percent of the world's total. In the midst of an investment fever, China's dynamic growth in the world iron market cannot be overlooked as called "China Surprise" together with the impact on raw materials such as iron ore, iron scrap, coking coal, etc. The status of the iron and steel industry in China is influenced by the conditions of economic development, and, at the same time, it is also determined by the industrial character of iron and steel. Generally, the iron and steel industry has the following three features: The first feature is that it has its own tendency of growth in response to the demand for steel products: long size steel (for construction), -> sheet and plate (steel sheets) -> steel pipes -> high quality steel (high tensile, rust-proof, vibration-damping, electric steel) etc. In the initial stages of economic development, steel products such as shaped steel and wire rod steel, called "long size steel", are mainly used for roads, bridges, plants and buildings. On the other hand, steel sheets and plates are used for furniture, home electric appliances, automobiles, machinery, etc., and the demands for these steel products increase with the economic growth. On that account, the iron and steel industry of a country has a responsibility to make its products in accordance with the growth of the country's economy.
