內容簡介Polymeric fibers have been used successfully to improve the behavior of refractory castables during the drying stage. It is well known that some fibers can enhance the materials' permeability after their melting or degradation. Depending on the thermal evolution of the fibers' mechanical properties, they can also promote mechanical reinforcement at the temperatures at which vapor pressurization occurs, also helping to avoid spalling. Based on thermogravimetric analyses, permeability, mechanical strength and work-of-fracture measurements, this paper evaluates three synthetic polymeric fibers as additives for the drying of refractory castables. It was found that the key factors for optimizing permeability or mechanical reinforcement are different but, in both cases, they are strongly related with the fibers' thermal behavior.
